GLOBAL WARMING RUG
At this year\'s international furniture fair in Valencia, Spain, Nanimarquina presented the ‘global warming rug\' designed by the Mexican design collective NEL. ‘Global warming\' portrays a polar bear stranded on an ice floe, victim of melting polar icecaps and climate change.

For ages carpets have been traditional tools to communicate a culture\'s messages. Now Nanimarquina continues this practice with its products. They recently came up with a new global warming collection as a platform for communication.

The Mexican design collective, NEL, found a way to carry out such a project, a way of spreading a clear message:

“An invitation to reflect on the contemporary world around us. The name says it all: Global warming. The loneliness of a small polar bear surrounded by nothing communicates the urgency of the message. The global warming rug is a proposition of hope; the potential for a better future, a possible world.”

Designed by NEL and produced by Nanimarquina, “Global Warming Rug” is made by hand tufted, 100% New zealand wool.

NEL collective is a platform for experimentation formed by an evolving collective of Mexican designers. The current members of NEL are Ricardo Casas (1979), Alejandro Castro (1982), Héctor Esrawe (1968), Emiliano Godoy (1974) and Cecilia León de la Barra (1975).
